The Contrin Refuge is located at the summit of the homonymous "Val Contrin", in Canazei in Val di Fassa, at the foot of the Marmolada Group, in front of which rise several peaks over 3,000 meters high, including the MARMOLADA, the Gran Vernel, Piccolo Vernel, Cima Ombretta, Sasso Vernale and Cima Uomo! It is one of the most spacious refuges for sleeping places in the Fassane Dolomites, its panorama extends 360° over the Marmolada and Sassolungo groups, also UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and is mentioned in numerous magazines and international publications. It is less than 6 km from the town of Alba di Canazei, easily reachable on foot thanks to a dirt road. It becomes the daily destination of countless tourists staying in the neighboring valleys, serving as a rest and overnight stop for various national excursions and not, including the Alta Via delle Dolomiti n.2, the Monaco-Venice, and last but not least the international route "Via Alpina" that connects 6 countries, all bordering the Alps. Stage destination also for a MTB circuit - "la "Ronda Grande" is an excellent starting point for excursions of all levels, from climbing to simple walks through the forest to discover wild animals such as roe deer, deer, chamois or the many marmots, who cavort every day on the steep slopes of these valleys.
Read everythingMAIN ACCESS FROM ALBA DI CANAZEI: From Alba di Canazei (1,517 m) the mule track path no. 602, which with a thick serpentine in the wood leads to overcome the initial steep difference in height of the valley exiting at the Baita Locia Contrin (1,736 m). The path becomes flat. You cross an area of sparse forest to enter the spacious pastures of the valley. You walk amidst a grand backdrop of peaks surrounding the valley on each side. Colac to the right, Vernel and Marmolada to the left, while the monumental Cima di Ombretta tower rises to the east. Cross the Ruf de Contrin, reach the Mèlga Cianci Refuge, then go diagonally towards the Contrin Refuge (2,016 m) which dominates from a hillock. It can be reached with a few hairpin bends drawn in a forest of sparse larch trees (2 hours). The path can be traveled with a pushchair with large wheels. Possible paid shuttle service to the Baita Locia Contrin Refuge. SECONDARY ACCESSES: Path/trail number 606, 607, 608, 609, 610 (ask for information on the matter)
