Description

YOUR RETREAT PLACE IN THE HEART OF THE DOLOMITES
Nestled in the breathtaking and steeply sloping peaks of the Sesto Dolomites, wild and secluded, the small Büllelejoch refuge offers the peace and solitude that you often miss in everyday life. During the day it is a paradise for mountain lovers, in the evening silence returns.

HOW DOES IT WORK
Supply: Due to the remote location of our shelter, the delivery route is very long.
We use a helicopter, a small off-road vehicle, a quad or, in case of bad weather conditions, just a backpack.
Energy: Off-grid solar hybrid system, diesel generator
Heating / cooking: Wood and gas
Water: Small spring with collecting basin - usually very little water available. Waterless compost toilet for day guests.
Waste water: Three-chamber purification plant. The contents of the last chamber are pumped out at regular intervals and transported by helicopter to the sewage treatment plant.
Why UNFORTUNATELY do we have to use plastic bottles?
Glass bottles take up much more space (no storage options, empty bottles). The weight is much higher (we would have to make many more trips / flights to take them to the shelter). We try to avoid plastic in the valley as much as possible and are happy if our guests do the same. It is much easier to respect in the valley than in the mountains and together we can make a big difference!

How to get

FROM SIMPLE TO DEMANDING ROUTES
GPS coordinates: N 46 ° 37.897´ E 12 ° 20.478´
We recommend the Tobacco hiking map no. 10 or 17.

FROM THE AURONZO REFUGE
From the Auronzo Refuge (parking lot, 2,320 m) above Misurina passing through the Lavaredo Refuge, path no. 104, ca. 3 hours. 200.
Bus connection from Sesto, San Candido, Dobbiaco, Misurina, Cortina to the Auronzo Refuge.
Driveway, easy. During the flowering period you can admire the wonderful flora, marmots, a pond, and enjoy the sun ... the Cima Dodici (Croda dei Toni) always in front of your eyes.

From the Auronzo Refuge (car park, 2,320 m), above Misurina, passing through the Lavaredo and Locatelli Refuges, path no. 104/101, ca. 3 hours.,
Easy, cross the north face of Monte Paterno (n. 101), splendid view of the north faces of the Tre Cime, from the Piani lakes near the Locatelli Refuge there are still approx. 1.5 hour, the second half of the journey is steeply uphill to Pian di Cengia.

Tip: Use one of the two paths to get to us and the other to return - so the excursion becomes a fantastic tour around Monte Paterno (approx. 6 hours).

FROM SESTO
From Val Fiscalina (Sesto, parking area 1.454 m), passing through the Comici Refuge, path n. 103/101, ca. 4 Std., 1.070.
The fastest ascent from the Sesto Valley (n.103), partly steep and full of steps, splendid views of the Alta Val Fiscalina with La Lista indicating the road, the via ferrata degli Alpini winds in front of the slightly more up. Once you reach the Comici Refuge, head west (n.101) to reach the Fiscalino Pass. Almost there: there are 10 minutes to our refuge.

From Val Fiscalina (Sesto, parking area 1.454 m), passing through the Locatelli refuge, path no. 102/101, ca. 4.5 Std., 1.150.
You start (n.102) among the mountain pines along an uphill stony path, you pass through the Val Sasso Vecchio until you reach the Alpe dei Piani from where on the left you can see Monte Paterno and further east the Forcella Pian di Ledge, on the right the Lastron dei Scarperi. Once you reach the Locatelli Refuge, you can admire the majestic north faces of the Tre Cime. From there in about 1 hour (n. 101), on a path that was first almost level, then instead steep, you can reach us here.
Known as the Sesto Refuge Tour (approx. 7 hours)

Tip: the tour of the refuges is a wonderful experience in both directions. The climb through the Comici refuge is more shaded, so on hot days it is advisable to walk clockwise.

ALTERNATIVE ROUTES
From Val Marzon (Auronzo - Valle d`Ansiei, 1,260 m), path n. 107/104, ca. 4.5 Std., 1.250.
A lonely and wild path that, in the incision of the Val di Cengia, in tight hairpin bends leads to the Piani dei Cavalli from where it joins path no. 104.

From Dobbiaco, Val di Landro (parking Valle della Rienza, 1,406 m), passing through the Locatelli refuge, path no. 102/101, ca. 4.5 Std., 1.200.
It starts with a slight climb through the Rienza Valley to continue on a nice winding path to the Piani della Rienza (sources of the Rienza) and then continue to the Locatelli refuge. Continue on path n. 101 to the Pian di Cengia refuge.

From Val Campo di Dentro (car park, 1,486 m) passing through the Tre Scarperi and Locatelli refuges, path no. 105/101, ca. 4.5 Std., 1.200.

KITCHEN
The Pian di Cengia Refuge is located on the Italian-German linguistic border. This represents a cultural, linguistic and not least culinary enrichment.
On our menu you will find typical Tyrolean dishes such as dumplings and Kaiserschmarrn, but also polenta and the much-loved spaghetti. Hikers can refresh themselves by enjoying one of our hot dishes throughout the day.
For Greti and Niki it is essential to offer our guests excellent cuisine.
All dishes are prepared in our kitchen. We are very keen to use the products of our region as much as possible.

The use of a sleeping bag is mandatory (it can be purchased locally if required).
Due to the lack of water, we do not have a shower, but hot water for washing.

Main excursions

Croda Fiscalina (2.677 m)
Very easy and short excursion (½ hour, 150 m in altitude) not to be missed. Breathtaking views on the way up, and from the summit a unique view: mountains as far as the eye can see, from the Ötztal Alps to the Zillertal Alps to many others, the Großvenediger and the Großglockner, to the west Cristallo and Tofane, the Three Peaks to the south the Antelao and the Marmarole group, and right before your eyes, imposing and enormous, the Cima Dodici, Undici and Dieci. Cima Uno is a stone's throw away… Be careful, do not lean too far behind the crucifix: the wall falls overhanging for 700 m. Our tip: lie on your stomach and enjoy the tingling sensation.

TOUR OF THE THREE Peaks of Lavaredo
From the Pian di Cengia hut to the Locatelli hut, the Langalm hut, the Auronzo hut and through the Lavaredo hut to the starting point (approx. 6 hours)

Ferrata degli Alpini (1915 - 1918): Short and easy via ferrata with a splendid panorama. The start is 10 min. from the refuge. It is suitable for exercise or as a small excursion to complete the day, or as a passage to the Forcella Croda dei Toni. From here you can choose whether to walk towards the Strada degli Alpini, the Comici Refuge or towards the new via ferrata on the south face of the Croda dei Toni (Severino Casara). Essential via ferrata kit!

ALPINE CLIMBING
Cima Dodici (Croda dei Toni), Cima Uno, Monte Paterno, Tre Cime, and others. The history of climbing has been written between the walls of these mountains. Many of the climbs have now become classics, the dream of every mountaineer. In the footsteps of the historical guides of Sesto Innerkofler, Schranzhofer, etc. Daniel Rogger, who grew up on Pian di Cengia, and his colleagues from the Tre Cime Mountaineering School carry on the great tradition and accompany you on the most beautiful alpine itineraries and on the peaks of the Sesto Dolomites.

FERRATE

THE HOUSEHOLDERS

We, the Rogger family from Sesto, have rented the Pian di Cengia refuge since 1979. We love life at high altitude and cannot imagine a more beautiful place to work. The Pian di Cengia refuge is a private refuge of the Niederbrunner / Innerkofler family.
