Mountain hut Kofce is located on the southern slope of Košuta, just above the timberline. From here, you will be rewarded with exceptional views of surrounding mountains; in great weather conditions the visibility reaches all the way to Triglav and Ljubljana basin. Behind the cottage 2000 m peaks are awaiting for you to conquer them and feel the greatness of the nature by yourself. In summer, Kofce is truly lively. Children will be fascinated by the animals from local farms, grazing on surrounding pastures. Kofce is a great destination in winter as well; being surrounded by white mountains with snow peaks is an exhilarating experience. There is a lot of trails for mountain biking. Mountain hut Kofce is well known, all over Slovenija by our dumplings. People go to the Kofce just because of it.
Read everything
From the main road Tržič – Ljubelj Pass turn to the right in Podljubelj village and follow the signposts for Kofce. Leave your vehicle by Matizovec farm. Then follow the signposts for Kofce. The easier way (30 min walking): go by car through the town of Tržič to the Dovžan Gorge, then continue to the village Jelendol, left past the Bornov grad castle, continue along the macadam road to the hill to the crossroads – from Jelendol about 10 min, turn left again. Here, the road is aligned, and we drive for another 10 minutes on the slopes of Košuta to the parking lot. Then we go to the mountain hut on foot.
CUISINE
Mountain hut Kofce has a long tradition in preparing home-cooked, local dishes. You can treat yourself with the taste of home. We serve various traditional Slovenian stews such as jota, barley soup, a “little borrowed” been stew, beef or chicken stew, mushroom soup with buckwheat porridge, typical dish of the town Tržič – tržiška bržola (stew made from lamb or mutton) and other pot meals.
Of course, spoon bread on the mountain is a must. In grazing season try them with sour milk and in colder days with pickled cabbage and homemade Miha’s sausage.
On weekends our kitchen has a tempting smell of backing pork roast or delicious baby goat with backed potatoes.
For the dessert treat yourself with homemade dumplings. You can choose between traditional, modern, sweet, savoury and chocolate ones. Try the “Kofce tris” which consist of a blueberry, cottage cheese and chocolate dumpling or go with something bit extra like chocolate dumpling with banana or dark chocolate dumpling with raspberry. Whatever your choice, all the dumplings in Kofce are as delectable as they can be.

STUNNING HIKE ACROSS PEAKS – on the mountain peaks
From the hut head uphill on the pasture, past the cross and enjoy in a beautiful view. From here continue along the slope of Košuta to the crossroads, where:
turn left towards Veliki vrh (2088 m). The path takes you crosswise the slope to Toplar where for the first time you can stand in Austria with one leg and in Slovenia with another. Continue along the ridge until you reach your goal – Veliki vrh. If the weather is good, you will be rewarded with marvellous views on Slovenian and Austrian side of the mountains.
go straight towards Kofce gora. The paths leads along the ridge and is quite steeply. The path is covered with rocks and can be slippery, so make sure to be careful and to be well equipped. When you reach the peak you will be rewarded with amazing views. The path takes approximately 1,5 hours.
Once you reach the top of Košuta slope, turn right towards peaks Malo Kladivo and Veliko Kladivo, than descend into the George Škrbina and ascend to mountain Tegoška gora. After traverse Užnik, Macesje and other peaks, until you conquer the last peak in line – Košutnikov turn. Descend towards mountain pasture Dolga njiva and follow the “border guards” paths which leads back to Kofce. Round paths takes approximately 12 hours.
