Description

The refuge bears the name of the famous senator Guido Larcher, president of the SAT in various years from 1902 to 1917. The first construction dates back to 1882, when the SAT erected a "cube" at the end of the left lateral moraine on a small plateau in Val Venezia . The first rudimentary building was enlarged with two rooms, one for ladies and one for gentlemen.
More recently the refuge was completely renovated in 1992 and in the summer of 2009 important works were carried out which allow it to be opened, in particular weather conditions, for the ski mountaineering season.

How to get

The Larcher al Cevedale Hut is located in Val Venezia, in front of the Vedretta de la Mare, the Cime del Cevedale, Zufall, Palon de la Mare and Viòz.
The landscape background is that of the Stelvio National Park with its characteristic flora and fauna typical of an uncontaminated high mountain environment.
The Stelvio National Park covers an area of 130,700 hectares in the heart of the Central Alps and includes the entire Ortles Cevedale mountain massif. It is one of the largest and most interesting protected territories in Europe from the point of view of the various natural environments present in it.
Walking through the park you can find small streams, rushing waterfalls, glacial lakes, high peaks and large ecosystems rich in flora and fauna.

Accesses
The Refuge can be reached from the Malga Mare electric plant (10 km from the town of Cogolo) along path 102 which passes next to Malga Mare. The road remains open throughout the year.
The path from the Malga Mare car park to the refuge can bei covered in 1.45 hours. The route can also be traveled by families accompanied by children and the landscape is typical of the high mountains with its characteristic flora and fauna.
On the way back, instead of the traditional path, you can take "il Sentiero dei Laghi" 123 which allows you to skirt the beautiful alpine lakes ( Marmotta, Lungo, Nero) and the careser reservoir.

Indoor / outdoor dining areas

The ground floor has also been modernized and features a small room completely lined in wood in the classic mountain style.
The cuisine is managed directly by the Casanova family and includes typical mountain dishes such as polenta, canederli, barley soup and all the dishes of the Trentino and Soland tradition. Even the desserts are typical and treated in detail by the managers.

Opening

Management / Ownership

The refuge is managed by the legendary Alpine Guide Oreste Casanova who from 1958 to 1966 also managed the Vioz "Mantova" and since 1967 has managed the Cevedale "Guido Larcher".
In 2006 he received the "Picozza d'Oro" award for his love and respect for the mountains and for his fundamental contribution to the protection of a property that belongs to everyone. The tradition continues now with his son Manuel and we hope also with future generations.
