The Balbieres refuge is located in Piedmont, in the Upper Susa Valley, at an altitude of 1,500 meters in the hamlet of the same name in the municipality of Cesana Torinese. The refuge is open on weekends, holidays, and during school holidays and long weekends in April, May, September, and October, and daily in June, July, and August. Reservations are required at other times for groups of at least 15 people. Balbieres can be reached on foot via the dirt road to Desertes, which starts from the Monginevro state road 24. From Turin and France, follow the signs for Oulx - Cesana Torinese. At km 84, on the right, there are two access points to the road to Desertes, where you can leave your car. (There are additional parking spaces 100 meters from the entrances, the last one before the bridge over the Dora River.) The mountain landscape is characterized by large woodlands of larch, ash, and maple trees, which cover 80% of the area and invite long walks to immerse yourself in nature. Encounters with local wildlife at dusk are not uncommon; foxes and deer are happy to visit, provided you observe strict silence while waiting. At the Balbieres Refuge, you can stay overnight and enjoy traditional Piedmontese dishes, served in a rustic and welcoming dining room or on the outdoor terrace. Our rooms, with shared bathrooms and heating, are always available for stays dedicated to relaxation, silence, sports, and excursions, immersed in nature and visited by the local fauna. Various hiking and mountain biking trails depart from the Refuge, allowing you to reach the locations and peaks of the Alta Val di Susa on the border with France. Before setting out, always check the weather forecast and contact us to check the conditions of the trails and routes.
