Description

Mountains, sports, trekking, snowshoes, nature, Valtellina cuisine and relaxation ..
Just five minutes walk from the car, the Zoia Refuge is located in a strategic position that offers a unique view of the alpine landscape of Valmalenco, the splendid Valtellina valley; in the heart of the Bernina Group, on a hill above the town of Campo Moro, in a dominant position that allows you to enjoy a fantastic view.
The massive figure of Pizzo Scalino that stands out behind it is the business card with which the Refuge presents itself. Moving your gaze to 360 ° you can admire the valley of the Valmalenco, dominated in the distance by the slopes of Monte Disgrazia.
Il Rifugio offers the best dishes of the Valtellinese tradition.
Sciatt, pizzoccheri and Valtellinesi gnocchi, polenta with game, braised meat, ribs, luganeghe, taroz and other local specialties. Each meal can be accompanied by local cured meats and cheeses and bottles of good Valtellinese wine (including Sassella, Inferno, Grumello, Sforzato).
Finally, you cannot miss the cakes and pies of the house and finally ... a good Genepì!
The home cooking is enriched by the panorama that can be appreciated from the outdoor terrace and from the internal dining rooms.

How to get

The Zoia Refuge is located at 2021 m above sea level, in Campo Moro, in the municipality of Lanzada, in the heart of the beautiful Valmalenco (Valtellina, Sondrio).

In summer / autumn the Zoia Refuge can be reached from Sondrio in about an hour by car (completely on a paved road) through the provincial road of Valmalenco, passing through Lanzada and following the signs for Campo Moro.

From the Campo Moro car park, the Zoia refuge is clearly visible on a small promontory on the right of the car park and can be reached in 5 minutes on foot on an easy path.

GPS coordinates: Lat 46 ° 18 '12.2' 'Long 9 ° 55' 49.2 ''

WINTER ACCESSIBILITY
During the winter season the road leading to the refuge is almost always covered with snow in the stretch from Franscia to Campo Moro (last 8 km of road).
Under normal conditions, the road can be covered with winter tires or with summer tires + mounted chains.

NB: Even if winter tires are fitted, it is always advisable to have snow chains with you. These can be useful in case of ice or during snowfalls.
With diesel-powered cars, we recommend refueling with alpine / arctic diesel, to avoid unpleasant surprises caused by freezing of the fuel.

If the road conditions make the passage of cars difficult or for those who prefer to take a good walk, it is always possible to leave the car at the Franscia car park and walk up (about 2 hours walk from Franscia to the Zoia Refuge).

Rooms / Beds / Bathrooms

The recent renovation has allowed us to combine the simplicity of a rustic and traditional environment with the comforts of today.
The refuge has 13 bedrooms and bedrooms (3 of which doubles), for a total of 60 beds. The rooms are simple and basic, but all equipped with heating, private bathroom with toilet, shower and hot water.
From each room it is possible to admire a unique view of the mountains of the Bernina group and the valleys below. There is also a solarium reserved for customers who stop for the night.
The Zoia Refuge is an eco-sustainable structure, the water heating is in fact guaranteed every day by the solar panels installed on the roof.

Main excursions

Around the Refuge, coniferous woods frame the splendid landscape. Towards the valley is the artificial basin of Campo Moro, where it is possible to fish for trout.
Numerous paths start from the refuge which in summer allow you to reach the other refuges in Valmalenco (connected to each other by the Alta Via), the mountain pastures, the alpine lakes, the peaks of the Bernina Group and the Pizzo Scalino through fantastic trekking.
In winter, the snow-covered landscape is the ideal place for snowshoeing and ski touring.
ALPINISM: The Zoia Refuge has always been an important starting point for all mountaineers who want to reach the peaks of the Bernina Group and Pizzo Scalino.
TREKKING: The Zoia Refuge is a crossroads from which numerous paths and mule tracks branch off that lead to the other refuges of the Valmalenco, to the mountain pastures, to the alpine lakes and to nearby Switzerland through beautiful trekking.
In a few hours of walking you can reach the Glaciological Path at the foot of the Fellaria glacier.
The Zoia Refuge is a stop on the international 'Via Alpina' itinerary that crosses the entire Alpine arc, from Slovenia to France.
MOUNTAIN BIKE: Most of the trails can also be covered with Mountain Bikes, for which it is possible to program outings of different levels of difficulty and for all specialties, from Cross Country to Freeride ...
CLIMBING: A few minutes walk you can reach the Zoia cliffs, one of the best known and most appreciated in the whole Valmalenco. A true paradise for free climbers!
CANYONING: For those who love more adventurous sports, we recommend a descent into Cormor, a spectacular canyon, unique of its kind, to be said with an Alpine Guide and with the necessary technical equipment.
