The Bruno Pomilio Refuge can be reached from 3 sides, from Pretoro, Lettomanoppello and Roccamorice.
From mid-April to the end of November it can be easily reached by car, in the winter period it can be reached with snowshoes, skis (with the Majelletta WE ski lifts), with mountaineering skis or with the Gatto delle Nevi owned by the refuge .
The section of the “P” path (Park path) from Majelletta to Monte Amaro is the most famous and popular in the Park. Used to reach the northern peaks of the mountain such as Monte Acquaviva, Monte Focalone or Cima Murelle, it can also be followed only up to the Monte Cavallo saddle fountain to visit the Table of the Brigands or the ruins of the Blockhaus fort. The starting point is the Pomilio Refuge, where it is possible to leave the car. The first stretch from the refuge follows the "Indro Montanelli" itinerary, which takes place on an asphalted stretch, closed to vehicular traffic, which reaches up to the square, near the ruins of the Blockhaus. This part of the route is also accessible to disabled people and allows you to have an overall view of the mountain. The path goes around the ruins of the Blockhaus to the west, overlooking the Orfento valley and leads onto the long ridge of Cima Cavallo. Near Monte Cavallo there is the well-known Table of the Brigands, a rocky outcrop where inscriptions linked to the pastoral world and to the phenomenon of brigandage are engraved, which had its maximum development in Abruzzo around the mid-1800s. Once at Fontanino the the climb becomes challenging and reaches the ridge that closes the Murelle Amphitheater to the north, where the Fusco bivouac is located. We continue the climb up to Monte Focalone from where we can admire Monte Amaro and where it is possible to spot herds of Apennine chamois (Rupicapra pyrenaica ornata). The path proceeds through a series of ups and downs called "the three doors", which allow you to cross the massif passing through Cima Pomilio, then near the summit of Monte Rotondo, to reach a plateau under the last ramp to Monte Amaro. The summit can be reached by climbing the wide northern ridge, dotted with rare flowers such as the Apennine edelweiss. Near the summit there is the Pelino bivouac.
