Description

Located in a very panoramic position on a natural hill at the base of the famous Segantini Ridge.

The Rosalba refuge can be reached starting from the Piani dei Resinelli, either via the Via delle Foppe (trail sign 9 – just over 2 hours), or the “Direttissima” (trail sign 8 and 8/a, about 3 hours), which is much more demanding and wild, passing through the Rifugio Carlo Porta.

Near the Rosalba refuge, there are many opportunities for climbing on beautiful routes... nothing better than a few days at the refuge to cover them all!

The guides in the area organize climbing courses for every level of mountaineering preparation.

How to get

From Milan, take the state road 36, at km 50 (bridge over the Adda) take the new SS 36 towards Valsassina. Once you reach the Ballabio roundabout, at the exit of the last tunnel of the SS 36, take the road which with 14 hairpin bends leads to Piani Resinelli (1278 m). Leave the car. After passing the large car park (Piazzale Daniele Chiappa), at the end, turn right. Continue downhill and reach the former Alippi Refuge (1180 m). A trail sign indicates the Sentiero delle Foppe n. on the right. 9 (red-yellow signs), the Path of the Dead, which leads to the Rosalba Refuge in 2 hours.
The path to the Rosalba refuge begins with a walk in a beautiful beech forest. In this stretch the walk is not demanding: the path is flat with slight ups and downs until the view opens onto the spiers of Grignetta. From here it starts to get steep and becomes challenging from the junction for the Sentiero dei Morti.
We leave the forest that has accompanied us so far to face the last part of our journey towards the Rosalba refuge, between the grassy slopes and the spiers of the mountain that Leonardo Da Vinci called "pelada". A pinch of the Dolomites in Lecco. On your right the imposing Cecilia Tower watches over the path and hikers. The refuge begins to come into view, but although it seems nearby, you still have to walk to reach your destination. The last efforts to then abandon ourselves to the contemplation of a stupendous panorama that from Lake Como pushes our gaze to the horizon, that horizon crowned by the Alpine chain, where on fine days we can clearly recognize the Gran Paradiso, the Monviso and Monte Rosa.
And if you want to have lunch, the Rifugio Rosalba offers excellent lunches.
The path to Rosalba is not recommended for families with small children. The return is to be done along the same path. To reach the refuge from Piani Resinelli it is also possible to take the Direttissima from Rifugio Porta or, passing through the Foppe path, choose the Sentiero dei Morti at the crossroads.

Main excursions

Near the Rosalba Refuge, there are many opportunities for climbing on beautiful routes.
The panorama from Rifugio Rosalba opens onto the Northern Grigna massif, Lake Como and the row of mountains that frame it, and the distant snow-capped mountains of Switzerland. In summer, there are many climbers who crowd the walls of the Torrione del Cinquantenario, in an attempt to conquer the top and the characteristic bell.
