In the western part of Vrhnika (Slovenia), among the various Karst phenomena, Planina above Vrhnika is rising to an altitude of 733 m. The hut is open every day from Tuesday to Sunday and holidays and is a popular excursion point. Next to the new cottage there is also a lookout tower, built in 2008 and 22 meters high. It is already the fourth placed on this site, and there is a wonderful view of the nearby and distant surroundings (villages, cities, Ljubljana marsh, river Ljubljanica, some other mountains, if there is a good weather, you can see the highest Slovenian mountain, Triglav). The mountain hut above Vrhnika is owned by Mountain Association of Vrhnika, and managed by the manager Mitja Kovačič with his team. At Planina above Vrhnika you can get lots of traditional Slovenian dishes, including ''vrhniški štruklji'' and Cankar's coffee, which represent local gastronomy. Mountain hut has a big dorm room with 15 beds and 2 bathrooms and it is a cyclist friendly accommodation also. The gusts can decide to book a cycling packet, which include accommodation with breakfast and launch packets. There is a small info corner, prepared special for cyclist, where they can get all information about cycling routs in surrounding, repair shop, places for relaxation etc.
Leggi tuttoThe accesses to Planina above Vrhnika is quite easy. Take the bus no. 47 from Ljubljana and exit at the last station. Follow the narrow road for 4 km and that you reach a small fountain. The signs for Planina starts there. Follow the signs and in approximately 45 min walking you will reach the destination. If you are traveling by car, there is an option to park the car just next to the mountain hut. At the railway take the exit Vrhnika and at the traffic light turn left. After the gas station immediately right. Drive straight an after 4 km, at the sign for Ulovka and Razgledni stolp turn left. Follow the road and just a little under the top turn left (sign razgledni stolp, lovska koča). Drive up to the top and at the end of the road turn left and just follow the road up to the hut.
